Pronouncing The Year 2010: ‘Twenty Ten’ vs. ‘Two Thousand Ten’

There seems to be an ongoing debut among experts about how to pronouce the year 2010. It is assummed coming off of two “thousand nine,” that people will probably say “two thousand ten.” However, the National Association of Good Grammar (NAGG) has decided to step in and let the masses know that 2010 should officially be pronounced “twenty ten” and all subsequent years should be pronounced as “twenty eleven,” “twenty twelve,” etc. Contray to NAGG, David Crystal, author of the Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language has predicted that the change of pronunciation to “twenty X” will not occur until 2011. He believes in 2011 people will say “twenty eleven,” because the way people pronounce years depends on rhythm, rather than logic. He also claims that the rhythm or “flow” of “two thousand and ten,” beats that of “twenty ten,” but the flow of “twenty eleven” beats “two thousand and eleven.”

Ralph Lauren Ad… TOO SKINNY!

What man would want a woman this skinny? In fact, as women why would you want to look this skinny? As a thin woman I often feel extremely sorry for women who think this is acceptable and strive to be this thin. Often times if I am out and about shopping or trying on clothes other women will comment on my size. Comments include “you are the perfect size”, “because you are so small I am sure you can wear just about anything”, “I wish I was your size”, “what are you about a size 2″, etc. Believe it or not the latter quote was from an attorney in the business affairs department that was interviewing me for a position at a well established company.

I am 5’8 and I way roughly 130 pounds. I spent most of 2009 trying to gain 10 pounds as my goal was to be 140. That’s 140 pounds of muscle… I did reach 138, but my pants were becoming too tight and I was not interested in buying a new wardrobe as I like most of my clothes that I have now. In fact when I tell people that I am a solid size 4 and often wear 6′s they are in utter shock as they expect me to wear a size 0. My point is, I am thin and I couldn’t imagine being any thinner.

Ads like the one from Ralph Lauren send out a terrible message to young women. I think it is unacceptable and I am happy to learn that the U.K.’s Committee of Advertising Practice has been thinking about taking action on regulations governing Photoshopped ads targeted at girls younger than 16. These images are unrealistic for young women as well as women of a certain age.

Who Said Men Don’t Like Ladies With Long Legs?

When I read the headline “Men Don’t Like Ladies With Long Legs” on one of my favorite men’s websites Asylum.com it caught my attention. As a self-proclaimed “cute” young lady with EXTREMELY long legs I immediately thought to myself wait, is this why I am single. Ha! Then I thought great, yet another thing against me. It wasn’t long ago when I was watching some random show called Millionaire Matchmaker where I had to listen to this so-call expert rant and rave about men not liking women with curly hair. Oh and must I forget the other thing, kind of a major thing depending on who you ask, but apparently men don’t like skinny women either. Ok, so if you’re counting, I have three strikes – long legs, curly hair, and skinny. When you add in “cute”, you would think it adds up to be a “Model.” Now ask yourself, what man wouldn’t want a model on his arm?

“I’ll Kill Him Graveyard Dead Ma’am.”

Earlier this story I read a story about a 911 tape that was released from a home invasion shooting that left an intruder dead from a shotgun blast. The 911 call details the conversation between a 911 operator and a woman who opened fire on a man who at broke into her house. Although there is nothing funny about the story, several days later, I still find myself laughing at what is now going to stand up as one of the crazyist quotes of all time.

What would you do if you were standing at the alter about to say “I-Do” to the woman of your dreams and your ex-partner’s mother, sisters and aunt burst into the room and began beating and screaming at you?

This very senerio happened. In fact after they finished beating and screaming at him, the burly women shoved him and his mother outside into a parking lot, where the ex-partner joined in. Once the dust settled and the police hauled everyone to jail, it was discovered the ex and her family put the beat down on the groom because the ex is claimed, she wasn’t his ex at all and was indeed his wife! Here is another twist, the ex wife filed a complaint against him for attempted “crimes against the family.” This is some funny sh*t!

Shes a a SEXsomniac!

When I came across the headline “Girl’s a Snore-Gasm Addict” I thought to myself, what the hell is this about? After reading “Stunning Belle Floor is a Sexsomniac — meaning she engages in sexual acts while she is sleeping — and cannot remember ANYTHING the next day“, I thought to myself, what the hell is a SEXsomniac?

Well apparently based on the very few articles that I came across when I did a Google search, several people claim to suffer from this disease. In fact, in another article I came across titled “Medical Condition Makes Barmaid Demand Sex While She Is Asleep” a women claims “I can have sex three or four times a night .. but in the morning I won’t know a thing about it.” If you will believe it, there is even a website www.Sexsomniac.com set up to help people who suffer from this rare disease. There was even a song back in the day that described the life of a SEXsomniac by T-Boz from TLC called “I Touch Myself”.

Scary: Women Finds Long Lost Dad Who Is Now A She

Could you imagine looking for your long lost father only to find that he is now a she? Even if you got over that part, could you get over the fact that your dad just may be the worst looking woman alive???? YIKES!

Officially Saying Goodbye to Things That Have Plagued My Life

Life has a funny way of forcing you to see things for what they are. Admittedly, I thought that I was always looking at myself and doing some self reflection; however, somehow I was looking, but not really seeing who I was. Unfortunately, not so great circumstances made me take a look. The outcome was I really didn’t like who I saw.

My last blog entry was October 16th and prior to that there was a stretch when I was really sparactic with blogging. I love writing and blogging, so I had to ask myself why am I not doing it. The answer was simple. I was spending too much time working on and blogging for someone else. Yes, I have been anonymously blogging for someone else. Not to mention posting for them on Twitter, Facebook, and answering their fan mail. I was spending allot of time working with an artist and essentially giving her a personality and a platform. Problem is I needed to give myself a voice first.

As I have often said, I make it look good. Not on purpose, but it’s just how I am accustomed to moving. No one needs to know what’s really going on. At least that’s what I used to think. Well, I have learned, I can’t help others until I help myself. I have also learned that I need to do what makes me happy and more importantly, it is imperative that I focus on myself first and foremost. I love myself, but I have to learn to like who I see in the mirror every day and be HAPPY!

I am officially saying goodbye to things that have plagued my life and getting back to things that make me happy including blogging.

Actress Essence Atkins Meets Fiancé on Match.com

The date has been set! Actress Essence Atkins of UPN’s Half and Half is set to marry the love of her life Jaime Mendez on September 26th. On Valentine’s Day Essence decided to send Jaime an email message. Nothing strange about that… other than some may be a bit curious as to why this beautiful actress (by most men’s standards) was surfing Match.com looking for compatibility.

After discovering she was 97% compatible with Jaime on the website Match.com, Essence decided to contact him on Valentine’s Day 2008 and the pair began a whirlwind romance. Just one year later after their first meeting, Jaime proposed and now the pair is preparing to walk down the aisle.

For those that follow my blog, you may know I started blogging really to tell my Match.com experiment, “Match.com the EXPERIENCE“. Most people find my story witty, interesting, but more importantly funny. I try to always find the humor in my sometimes quirky life experiences. I was not looking for love when I signed up for Match.com. For me it was and still remains an “experiment.” However, I think the site can be a useful tool for those that are looking for something.
