Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans – Prequel vs. Sequel

As a fan of the Underworld series, I was thrilled to hear about “Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans”, which is the prequel to the first movie, Underworld hitting theaters in 2009. After being captivated by the first Underworld, I will admit I was a bit disappointed with Underworld Evolution and I am not sure why the third installment if the series is a prequel as opposed to a sequel; however, I am excited all the same. I just hope that Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans is not a flop like “Blade: Trinity”. Considering Underworld Evolution ended with Selene (played by Kate Beckinsale) saying the following, I am still unclear as to why Underworld 3 was not made as a sequel.

“An unknown chapter lies ahead. The lines that have divided the clans have now been blurred. Chaos and infighting are inevitable. All that is certain is that darkness is still ahead, but for now, for the first time, I look into the light with new hope.”

The prequel traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Michael Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

The prequel has every indication that Selene and Michael (played by Scott Speedman) will not be apart of the story. I am just not sure why the history of the two races needs to be told in it’s entirety as opposed to a flashback like in the second film. After all, what is the Underworld without Selene and Michael??

Hennessy “Flaunt Your Taste” presents Honey Collective’s 2nd Year Anniversary

Last week I had an opportunity to attend the Hennessey “Flaunt Your Taste” event celebrating Honey Collective’s 2nd Year Anniversary. The Honey Collective which consists of my girl DJ Rashida, DJ EQue, Shelley Oto, and Monica Payne are a group of LA’s finest that put on top notch events. Keeping true to the rest of their events, “The Show” lived up to the hype. With performances by Slick Rick The Ruler, Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, and DJ D-Nice this was a funky fresh event not to be missed. As a twist, the theme for the party was “Dress in Your Freshest ’88 Attire”. As you can imagine, right before Halloween many people turned out with there funky, funky, fresh gear!

Is a Vacation to Hawaii Over-Rated?

waikiki

As you can see, it’s been some time since I have blogged. Well, I was headed to Iceland and other parts of Europe, but thanks to the collapse of Iceland’s economy and my love for HOT weather, I opted for a view of the beach instead.

Keeping in the theme of traveling by myself to places I never been before, I headed to Hawaii this year for my birthday. Yes, I know… I have been around the world, but not to Hawaii.

In addition to traveling to Oahu, I decided to do something I rarely do and had a small birthday dinner and party. Thanks to my girls, this ended up being a wonderful week of celebration and thanks to an interesting twist of faith in Hawaii I met some really cool people.

Now that I have actually visited Hawaii, I can honestly say that many people are correct when they describe Waikiki as a tourist trap. For the most part, the city is great, but I was super disappointed in Waikiki Beach. Yes, the cost of food, etc is slightly higher; however, the beach was probably the most disappointing thing of all. There is hardly any sand. The water itself is very calming, but the lack of sand and space is just unacceptable! Not to mention, it’s not very big.

Luckily someone turned me on to Sandy Beach. After a 35 minute bus ride on Hawaii’s public transportation I found myself at the beach where the hit TV show LOST is filmed. Now this is something to enjoy! HOWEVER, there still wasn’t much sand. Ha haaa…. Yeah I know I am obsessed with sand. I guess it’s the fact that I live 15 minutes from the Beach and the beaches of California have lots of sand.

In addition to Sandy Beach, it was also recommended that I travel to North Shore. Unfortunately, many people gave me a disclaimer that this part of Hawaii can be dangerous since many swimmers and surfers have died on Hawaii’s North Shore. Now, I will admit that I am all for adventure and trying new things, but can’t say that I want to die in search of a beach with more sand…

BTW, Sandy Beach definitely lived up to its name. Not that there was much in terms of sand to lie on, but the sand was “killer”. Ha haaa… When the waves hit the shore, the sand would almost swallow you up. Not to mention, I had a time washing the sand off my body.
