Pick Fro’s Not Fights!

Okay! So, all my LIFE people have asked to take my picture. As you can imagine, I always ask WHY! And of course, I always say the same thing… “I am flattered, but NO thank you.” The only exception I have made to this rule is being photgraphed for Lucky Magazine and Los Angeles Times. This is partly because I am NOT photogenic. However, the main reason is I have had this fear of strangers using my photos for god knows what. When I was younger, this man would take pictures of all the kids at our local swimming pool. It was later discovered that he would change the heads on the photos and match them with other people’s bodies, etc. Now mind you this was before the internet. Wait am I telling my age? Oh and aside from that stranger danger fear, secretly I have always thought “What if I become famous one day.” Funny, but true story.

Nonetheless, while at the ROCK THE BELLS festival, a nice young lady named Jewel from FroLab.com approached me and asked if she could take my picture for her collection of Pick Fro’s Not Fights!. Well after noticing we shared something in common (our blond fro’s), I could not resist. You gotta love being Exposed to LIFE FRO’S

ROCK THE BELLS Festival

I was very fortunate to spend Saturday reliving Hip-Hop’s glory days at the ROCK THE BELLS festival. With 2008 marking the first year the ROCK THE BELLS festival will go global with four stops in Europe and one in Japan highlights of the festival include a return to the Glen Helen Pavilion in San Bernardino, CA where last year’s show sold out with a capacity crowd of 45,000 people. Although, I was back stage the entire show and was not able to enjoy the festival as a true fan due to the heat in San Bernardino, the performances I did catch were truly special. Not to mention, it was great being able to mix it up with old friends like Fat Lip (Pharcyde), Fuzzy (Los Angeles’s Power 106), Hen Gee (Ice-T), Herm & Jackie (Dub Magazine), Bri aka DJ 88 and be in the presence of others including will.I.AM (Black Eyed Peas), Rakim, and many more. As you can imagine my number one highlight was seeing NAS perform One Mic. If you love Hip-Hop and you are up to being Exposed to LIFE Music this is a must see festival.

About the Festival

Rock The Bells is an annual hip hop festival that took place in California, until just recently when it was announced that the festival will travel to multiple locations. The first festival was held in 2004, and featured a re-united Wu-Tang Clan, who performed 4 months before Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s death. ROCK THE BELLS has established itself as a world-class hip-hop platform by hosting legendary performances. The 2007 festival series included performances by a reunited Rage Against the Machine, the Wu Tang Clan, Public Enemy celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band and many more. The tradition of top names and memorable performances continues in 2008 as the line-up and routing for this year’s ROCK THE BELL 2008 International festival series powered by SanDisk included hip-hop all-stars A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Nas, Mos Def, Rakim, Method Man & Redman, Raekwon & Ghostface (Cuban Linx), Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Murs, Kidz In The Hall and the reunited The Pharcyde, and special guests. Fans will also see performances by the brightest names in the emerging electro-hip hop scene including Spank Rock, Santogold, Kid Sister, Wale, Jay Electronica and The Cool Kids with hosts B-Real of Cypress Hill and the world renowned Supernatural.
